ROUND-UP OF FEBRUARY 2011 ACTIVITIES ________________________________________________________ FEBRUARY 2011 01 TUE (1) Ms. Sampa Mondol - the student recommended by Rotary Club of Calcutta for fashion designing course at Bhowanipore Education Society, was recognized and felicitated with a gift cheque of Rs. 5000/- for being the recipient of the award of the "Best Designer" 2010. An excellent presentation was made by Rtn. Heena Gorsia who has also arranged the sponsorship of the course. (2) A cheque of Rs. 34,000/- handed over to the representatives of SCIR Tiljala towards their Midday meal for children-courtesy Rtn. Zul Hirji 04 FRI Arranged by Rtn. Purnendu Roychowdhury and Rtn. Debashis Mitra, a team of Rotarians from our club along with DG Rtn. Ranjit Majumdar from U.S.A visited St. Thomas' Home, Howrah where slum children are being immunized against all preventable diseases.. 05-06 SAT-SUN A team of 26 members and spouses of our club led by Rtn. Saumen Ray visited Sundarbans to inaugurate the Solar Light project at Parasmoni Hospital, conduct an awareness program on snake bite, and distribute blankets and T-shirts to the very needy local residents and children. 06 WED Health Care Committee held a free Eye Check-up Camp at our RCC Kanaidanga. 11 FRI Noted Industrialist Mr. Rahul Bajaj addressed the members and visited the Rotary Sadan facilities and the Archives. Text Books handed over to the representatives of 5 RCCs of Duttapukur, Badu, The Refuge, Begumpur and Jangipara for 200 children. 12 SAT A free Eye Check-up Camp held by a team of doctors deputed by Rtn. Dr. Ranabir Mukherjee from Eye Care Centre, for the students of Shree Gandhi Memorial School at Outram Street 14 MON A Cheque for Rs. 4,000/- handed over to the representative of Rota Star School towards teacher salaries for Nov & Dec, 2010. 20 SUN A free Eye Check-up Camp held at Radhanagar, Hooghly 23 WED To celebrate "World Understanding Day" the club held the "Rotary Oration", where RI Director Elect Rtn. Shekhar Mehta addressed the audience. Rtn. Subrata De and Ann Ivy hosted the fellowship and dinner. 26 SAT Rtn. Raj Kumar Agarwal and Ann Asha hosted the "Holi Milan". 27 SUN Our Club participated in the Pulse Polio Immunization programme at our RCCs. |
