DIRECTORS' REPORT

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Rotary Club of Calcutta, I have pleasure in presenting the 89th Annual Report of the Club containing the Audited Annual Accounts of The Rotary Club of Calcutta, Rotary Club of Calcutta Welfare Trust and Rotary Children's Welfare Trust for the financial Year ending 31stMarch 2009.

1 also have pleasure in presenting to you a vignette of the clubs multifarious activities in the current Rotary year, in many of which you have played an active part.

The Board of Directors take this opportunity of congratulating all the Chairpersons and Co-chairpersons of the Committees for dreaming big with us and for their dedication in conveying the dreams to reality.
To each and every member of the club we owe a lot for their unstinted support and encouragement.
The help and guidance from our Past Presidents, their wise counsel has helped us steer in the right direction we express our gratitude to them.

We are beholden to all our donors who have contributed generously towards our projects and activities by donating, sponsoring, advertising & hosting our various programs. To them the Board expresses its sincere gratitude. Many have contributed their valuable time, energy and ideas, we are thankful to them too. The Board wishes to record its sincere appreciation for the Rotaract and Interact Clubs for their exemplary performance during this year. We thank the Inner Wheel club of Calcutta and the Rotary Community Corps for the efforts put in by them during the year.

The Board puts on record its sincere appreciation to the Hony. Auditor Shri Ravindra Pratap Singh for accepting the responsibility as Hony. Auditor of The Rotary Club of Calcutta, Rotary Club of Calcutta Welfare Trust and the Rotary Children's Welfare Trust for the year ended 31st March 2009 at such a short notice. Shri Singh was appointed in the casual vacancy arising from the resignation of Shri Harsh Vardhan Lodha who could not continue to act as an auditor for his personal reasons. We also express our thanks to Shri Harsh Vardhan Lodha for the services he has rendered to the club for which we owe a debt of gratitude to him.

Most importantly the Board expresses its sincere appreciation and thanks to the members of the staff of the Rotary Club of Calcutta and the Rotary Children's Welfare Trust and the staff working in our homeopathy clinic for their year long unstinted support in their respective areas of responsibility. Without their active support no task would have been achieved.

89th Installation Meeting of the club was held at Oberoi Grand, Chief Guest PRTD Rtn. Sudarshan Agarwal and Noted Author, Columnist and Management Consultant Shri Gurucharan Das,
Rs. 3,21,000/-was handed over to the Himalayan School Society, Dehradun (Uttarakhand) for education of underprivileged children being contributed from Rotary Children's Welfare Trust.

Fellowship & Family of Rotary Committee
Under the Chairmanship of Rtn. Hirak Ray and Co-Chairperson Rtn. Anusua Das, a total number of 19 different fellowship events were organized during the year. The varietyof programmes
included Antakshari, Debate, Brunch, as well as a Cricket Match.
The praiseworthy event of the committee this year was the Members Nite Programme held on
1st May 2009. All these fellowships were hosted by club members. Rtn. Hirak Ray, Chairman of
the Committee sent out greeting cards and flower bouquets on members' Birthdays and Wedding
Anniversaries respectively with prompt. The programme list is reproduced below:

the members, this Committee rendered commendabe services by inviting renowned speakers from all walks of life, Dancers, Theatre Personalities, Journalists, Doctors, Corporate Managers, Fashion Designers, Magician, Government Officials, at our regular weekly meetings. The schedule of the clubs weekly Meetings and Programmes is listed below, followed by Rotary Clubs, which were toasted during the year.
The Chairperson also rendered outstanding service by collecting sufficient funds by way of advertisements to meet the printing cost of the club bulletin 'The Chaka'. Editor Rtn Satarupa Chaudhuri brought out issues of 'The Chaka', which was distributed in the weekly meetings. Special colour issues of'The Chaka' were brought out on special occasions. She deserves kudos for her good work as a green badger.

Attendance, Classification & Rotary Information Committee
Under the leadership of Rtn. A.C. MukJierji, Chairman of the Committee, and supported by Co-Chairperson Rtn O. P. Malhotra and Rtn. Nilima Joshi, the committee strived all along to improve the attendance of the club. Each and every membership proposal card was scrutinised in an exemplary manner, for which all the senior members of this committee need to be commended. The committee reintroduced the "Two Minute Rotary Talk" at Regular Weekly Meeting on subjects of rotary Information .
Rotary Awareness/District Affairs & District Awards, Public Relations And Rotary Image Committee
This committee under the leadership of Rtn. Ritwik Gupta Chairman of the Committee, and supported by Co-Chairperson Rtn Abhijit Kolay relentlessly collected details of all the activities of the year for the Report prepared for the District Awards, which was duly submitted within the deadline. The committee organized inter Club communications with district 3291 and also participated in all district programmes. Past President Diptish Sen along with other members made many goodwill visits to other clubs during the year and organized four joint meetings with other Clubs including one with Rotaract Club of Calcutta.
NCLCL Committee
Under the leadership of Rtn. Sujata Pyne and Co-Chairperson Rtn Swarup Mitra, Rtn. Anusua Das, Rtn. Rajeev Paralikar and Rtn. Dr. Dipak Sarbadhikari, the Club Archives In Charge, the collection grew in stature adding R I Publications, Club Bulletins, Photographs, Trophies, Valuable documents and Mementos. The dignitaries from India and abroad who visited the club this year have signed in our visitors book. The wonderful Website of the club received an average of 700 hits per month. The club records its deepest appreciation for Rtn. Dr. Dipak Sarbadhikari for his untiring efforts in making the Archives truly a treasure house of Rotary. Chairperson Rtn. Sujata Pyne enhanced our NCL Childrens' Library and Cultural Section. The children of the Cultural Section gave wonderful performances at important club events - Rabindra Najrul Smaran Sandhya, Republic Day, Independence Day, Nehru Birthday, Inner Wheel Fund Raising Day and Foreigners' Visit. An Art Exhibition of the paintings of all the Art Schools was also he Id and was a grand success.
Membership And Membership Development Committee
This committee under the Chairmanship of Rtn. Sutanu Ghosh did an excellent job by keeping to the directive of 'The Board of Directors' decision in mind that only selective members should be taken and membership should not be unnecessarily increased.
