Meet Our Present president

Rtn.Saumen Ray
President 2017-18

Saumen is a product of Ramakrishna Mission School with Star Honours in Physics from the University of Calcutta and a First Class Honours in Computer Science and Statistics from London, United Kingdom. He is a British National married with two children; daughter Suchira is an Advocate in London and son Shovon is pursuing multi-media, technology and film making.

During Saumen's stay in London for over 22 years, he had worked for Rolling Mills, British Government (Civil Aviation), Deloitte Haskins and Sells, Touche Ross and PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consultancy (PwC). He became the European leader of Computer Audit and Electronic Fraud investigation in Deloitte.

Saumen returned to India as an Associate Director of PwC to lead internationally donor funded multimillion dollars Government Reform projects in Energy, Water and Sanitation, andFinancial Services sectors in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladeshand Bhutan. Soon he became a Partner of PwC India as well as a Director of PwC United Kingdom.Currently he runs his own business in the hospitality sector with a heritage restaurant and helps his mother run a small school.

Saumen was inducted as a member of Rotary Club in 2003, and soon after he was given the responsibility of the Chair forthe Community Service Committee that he has continued until his Presidency. He served as the Hony. Secretary of the Club twice. He also served a Director of Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) under Rotary International initiatives for two successive terms of three years each. Currently Saumen is a member of the WASH in Schools (WinS) recognition committee in District 3291.

Saumen has also been given the responsibility of chairing Rotary Club of Calcutta's Centenary Committee which is responsible for preparation of projects and celebrations that are due in the Rotary year 2019-20.

Tangentially, Saumen did become an international badminton player whilein London, but that is now history. Thus, he retains a sporting spirit in all his pursuits. He enjoys driving up and down the country lanes on Rotary projects domestic and international.

Saumen indulges himself to drive in the Himalayas to support his son's cycling team. And of course, to enjoy himself, he looks forward to opportunities in Rotary striving to make a difference in the lives of the communities that becannot reached in the normal course......
