RTN O P MALHOTRA President (2011-12) I joined Rotary about 45 years ago as a member of Rotary Club of Durgapur, was President of Rotary Club of Durgapur for 2 terms 1972-73 and 1973-74. In 1975-76 I was appointed GGR for all the clubs in Burdwan District. There was a short discontinuity in my Rotary membership from 1983-84 when I was shifted to Calcutta to assure higher responsibility in the same company - Philips Carbon Black Ltd. Our International President Kalya Banerjee has griven us a wonderful Theme" LOOK WITHIN TO EMBARCE HUMANITY. "Let us do something more for the less fortunate members of our community living below poverty line. The membership strength of our club has been showing a downward movement due to natural attrition, advanced age, loss of interest and sometimes change of place. The average age of our Rotarians are quite high and the gender ratio is also not as it should be With this in mind we will look at the quality of our membership very carefully. Our growth needs to be looked at differently. We need to bring younger people in to Rotary. Facebook, You-Tube an Twitter - today's generation has its own net work and that is what we will look at enthusiastically We need to get younger people in quickly. We have the most accomplished and distinguished leaders of community in our club but somehow we have not discovered and used their potential fully. Some members do not contribute to the club in any significant way. We have planned large number of projects in the coming year and if we could involve them in our projects we could make a big impact on the community. We must remember that at the end of our tenure we will be judged not by the number of fellwoships and get-togethers that we had over the period but what we have done by way of service to the less fortunate people. I am thankful to the Rotarians who have very kindly agreed to serve as members on the board (directors, advisors, club officials as well as chairpersons, co-chairpersons and liason directors of various committees. I feel blessed that I have such a wonderful group of Rotarians to help me discharge my duties as President of your club. I am sure together we can achieve quite a lot. Yes, we can and we will.
