Dental & Eye Health Check Camp at RCC The Refuge

RC Calcutta organised a Health Camp for Dental Health and Eye Check-up at its RCC The Refuge in Bowbazar, for the residents at the orphanage cum destitute shelter. The Dental Camp was held with assistance from IDA (Indian Dental Association), who supports organisations in Dental Health check in schools and academic institutions. The camp was inaugurated by Rtn Nilima Joshi, President, and a team from RC Calcutta, comprising of Rtn Zul Hirji, Raj Agarwal, Atindra Nath Sen, Amit Ghosh, Dr Ashok Basu and Debasish Mitra, witnessed the Camp in operation, while Dr S Patra and Narimul Hassan from IDA performed the dental checks. Student residents with earlier dental complaints from Class 1 through 6, totalling to 75 in numbers underwent dental check-up, and 48 required dental attention, which RC Calcutta arranged free treatment at an IDA recommended dental hospital.

The Eye Check Up camp was arranged through City Optics and manned by opthalmists Dr R.Saha, R.Islam and Imam, and all residents aggregating to 271 in numbers had their eyes checked, with 41 prescribed for spectacles. RC Calcutta arranged free supply of spectacles to these student residents within a fortnight.

RC Calcutta also distributed children story books to 125 students from Class 1 through 5, and the President along with Dr Ashok Basu, IPP, handed over these books to the children. The books related small stories (folk lore) in English translated into vernacular, and the delight of the children was visible on receipt of these gifts.
