One of the most wonderful
things about Rotary is that it allows you to be part of something so much
larger than yourself." -RI President Glenn Estess Sr. ( Opening plenary
session at the Chicago Convention, 2005)
-

-
"Rotary's got to grasp new
technology, whether it's podcasting,

message in an electronic format, it also delivers the message
that we're technologically advanced."
— Chris Offer, Membership Development and Retention Committee chair
From: January 2007 issue of Rotary World

Rtn Charles G. Tennent - USA. RI President 1957-58

Paul Harris
-
It is well that there is nothing
in Rotary so sacred that it cannot be set aside in favor of things better. This
is an experimental age in a changing world, and all things which are worthwhile
and progressive are the cumulative effects of preceding successes and failures.
- Paul Harris made the statement in Peregrinations, Vol. III
-
I would like to think that the
pioneering days of Rotary have only just begun. There are just as many new
things to be done as ever there were. Kaleidoscopic changes are taking place,
many of them without our will. Even to hang on to the fringe of this
fast-changing world is about all most of us can do. Rotary simply must continue
to pioneer or be left in the rear of progress.
- Paul Harris wrote in the Rotarian February 1945
-
Mighty oaks from little acorns
grow.
[From a radio speech, describing the spread of Rotary from the first Chicago

Rotarians
-
They said persons could never fly
like a bird, remembering Icarus. Then Orville Wright showed that this was
possible - and Orville was a Rotarian.
-
They said a person could never
scale Everest, then Edmund Hillary and Tenzing proved them wrong - and Edmund
was a Rotarian.
-
They said the moon was a mystery.
Then Frank Borman during the first manned flight carried a Rotary flag - and
Borman was a Rotarian.
-
Rotary takes ordinary men, and
gives them extra-ordinary opportunities to do more with their lives than they
had ever dreamed possible.” - Clem Renouf, who was Rotary International President 1978-79
-
3H has another interpretation. Head, Heart and
Hands. If you use only your head, you are called an intellectual. if you use only your heart, you
are called a missionary. If you use only your hands, you are called a worker.
Those who use their head and their heart are called visionaries, those who use
their
head and hands are called technicians, those who use their heart and hands are
called artists, it is only those who use their head, heart and hands who are
called Rotarians.
- Quoted by PDG Siddhartha S Bose.

Pygmies are pygmies still, though percht on Alps;
And pyramids are pyramids in vales.

Virtue alone outbuilds the Pyramids;
Her monuments shall last when Egypt's fall.

We are responsible for what we
are, and whatever we
wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make
ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of
our own past actions, it certainly follows that
whatever we wish to be in the future can be produced
by our present actions; so we have to know how to act.
-Swami Vivekananda

“If we really want to love, if we
really want to live, we must love until it hurts . . . No Rotarian whose motto

Rotary club membership must offer opportunities for meaningful service and
friendships for all Rotarians. At the same time, we must maintain high
standards. If we begin to simply look for dues-paying members as a means of
increasing our budget, it will severely damage our credibility and signal the
end of our organization.
