10 If you take the road next to the National Medical College, you will eventually reach a slum where reach a slum beside a railway line, where hundreds of deprived families eke out a living by collecting reusable refuse from the streets. Stacks of bottles and other plastic waste are stacked for selling.

Amidst all this squalor lies an oasis of calm where a NGO has put up a school catering to about 80 children of this area. Each of them receive a primary education (up to class 5), given clean clothes and a hot cooked
mid-day meal. Learning English is an important part of the programme.
